We make download cards. This is our blog.
Soundscan Reporting – The Real Deal
We’ve been working with Nielson Soundscan for some time now. Just recently the company has finalized their requirements for download card reporting.  After much confusion and debate, the question of how a download card should be reported has been answered.   The reporting comes with some stipulations which you should know about. We’ve seen a few mixed messages out there in cyberspace so we’d like to lay it out for you. Here’s how it works:
1. You purchase your Dropcards.
2. You tell us your UPC or ISRC code as well as the price you’re selling the card for.
3. You sell them to your fans.  Sell the card alone, sell it on a t-shirt, sell it on a jar of pickles. It doesn’t matter.
4. You send Soundscan your venue settlement sheet after every event.  “I sold 100 cards tonight, woo!”
5. We report the number of redemptions that result from those sales.

So on a positive side, the reporting is easy.  All you have to do tell Soundscan how many cards you sold.  The negative is obviously if the person that purchased your card never redeems it, they don’t count.
We’re on board because many of our customers have requested this service.  And we love our customers.  We’d love to hear your feedback about the subject.  Would it be more beneficial to report your physical download card sales through your venue directly or use the Dropcards redemption reporting?   Email us at hello@dropcards.com.
