![Covers For a Cure - Musicians to Benefit Breast Cancer Awareness
[Ryan Moge is raising money for cancer research. He’ll be selling copies of his new compilation ‘Covers For a Cure’ on Dropcards and donating the profits to cancer research organizations. Ryan recently lost a friend to cancer and his story is one to be heard.]
A Little Backstory Story, written by Ryan Moge:
My friend Liberty Skrypek had been battling Breast and Ovarian cancer for close to 10 years now. In the last four years alone, she lost both her breasts, both her ovaries, as well as a piece of her spinal cord (which paralyzed her from the waist down). Still, even after all this, she along with her husband Lou, managed to be, without a doubt, the most positive and outgoing person I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing in my life.
Recently, she passed away. I know now that she is without pain and in a better place, but seeing someone close to me, especially someone as great as Libby, was really hard.
I’ve been lucky enough to be a touring musician since I was around 18 years old, and now that I’m 23, have many great relationships with bands in the local area. When I brought up the idea of ‘Covers For A Cur’e to all of them, I got 113 Submissions within the first DAY. It’s a great way to show support and unity throughout a scene that seems to be riddled with negativity.
All of the proceeds will be donated to the Cancer House of Hope in Westfield, MA (www.cancerhouseofhope.org) which was one of her favorite places to go and support, as well as the foundation ‘Rays of Hope’. Both donations will be made in her name and honor.
I just saw it as a way to do great things with what talents I was given and the relationships I have built in my life, and a way to honor her properly and keep her ‘alive’ in today’s day and age. There were so few people like her.
